Restorative solutions and interventions

Purple Ribbon Council’s “Restorative Solutions & Interventions” are natural helper-based approaches. Natural helpers are the people closest to someone affected by domestic abuse. They are family members, friends, co-workers, teachers, or peers. We engage and educate these “natural helpers” in solutions and interventions that support, benefit and empower the most silent survivors of domestic abuse. Through this work, Purple Ribbon Council is bridging the prevention and intervention gap, while helping the most under-served and under-reported survivors to restore a sense of normalcy.

Purple Ribbon Fund for Children

Purple Ribbon Fund for Children™

This special fund provides supportive care, advocacy, peer connections and basic needs assistance to children of domestic violence homicide victims and their caregivers.

The creation of our Purple Ribbon Fund for Children™ was inspired by a young boy named Anthony and a little girl named Jillian who lost their mom and dad to domestic violence in April 2007. Anthony's and Jillian's grandparents are now raising them- making huge financial sacrifices to provide a safe, stable and loving home. Sadly, thousands of other children and families are in the same situation. Our goal is to provide as many children and families with the supportive care and financial assistance needed to help them regain a sense of normalcy after such a tragedy. Funds are raised throughout the year at Purple Ribbon Council awareness events and are released as available. Funds can be used to help the caregivers of the children subsidize the cost of things like:

  • A family vacation
  • After school care, recreation activities
  • Tutoring
  • Medical or counseling costs
  • Specialized therapies
  • Basic needs (groceries, clothing, utility bills, co-pays etc.)
  • Attendance at Camp Butterfly
  • Other needs as identified

Camp Butterfly

Set to launch in 2011, Camp Butterfly is a weekend-long camp filled with fun activities, grief education, and peer-guided emotional support for children orphaned by domestic violence and their caregivers. Camp Butterfly provides:

  • A fun and comforting place for children of domestic violence homicide victims to connect with other children who understand exactly what they are feeling and experiencing.
  • A non-judgmental place for children and their caregivers to share their feelings, restore some normalcy and memorialize loved ones.
  • Tools and resources for the children and caregivers to use during and after camp.
  • The opportunity to build memories and friendships that will last long after camp is complete.

1-888-606-HOPE -  Friends & Family help line

The first national helpline of it’s kind, Purple Ribbon Council’s 1-888-606-HOPE is an empowerment helpline to provide friends, families, and co-workers the tools and confidence needed to intervene and provide supportive care when someone they know is going through domestic abuse. The purpose of 1-888-606-HOPE is to engage everyday “natural helpers” and coach them on how to recognize and respond to the signs of abuse. With 75% of women domestic abuse victims and over 67% of teens not reporting their abuse, 1-888-606-HOPE opens the door for more understanding and early intervention.
